What is WIC?

The WIC Program is a Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children that is designed to help families with their health and nutrition.

WIC provides the following at no cost to qualifying participants:  healthy foods, nutrition education, support with breastfeeding, and referrals to various programs.

Our WIC program has Breastfeeding Educators and Peer Counselors on hand that help our WIC participants with the encouragement and support needed to successfully breastfeed their children.
                               Who qualifies for WIC?
WIC is available to pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants and children under age five who are nutritionally at risk and who meet current income  and residency guidelines. Fathers, grandparents, guardians and foster parents can also apply for WIC for the children who are in their care.

What will I receive from WIC?

WIC issues checks or vouchers to get healthy foods and/or formula at grocery stores around the Osage County area. WIC foods include various types of milk, eggs, cereal, fruit juice, cheese, peanut butter, dried beans or peas, infant formula, infant cereal, baby foods, fresh and/or frozen fruits and vegetables, and canned fish.  Your WIC category determines which food items you will receive.

Osage WIC offers breastfeeding services, which include various benefits and support for breastfeeding mothers.  We  help with breastfeeding education, supplies, counseling as well as the nutrition from the WIC food benifits.

We also offer a wide variety of popular infant formulas some of which are specialty formulas that require a Doctor's referral. If you plan to formula feed please call to make sure we offer the formula you need and so we can make sure it's in stock.
If a special formula is needed we have formula request forms that your doctor must fill out to specify the formula needed, why it is needed and how long it is needed.  In most cases the Dr's office should have these forms, if not we can fax one to them or you may pick one up from us to take with you to the doctor, but the Dr.'s office must fax the formula request form back to us.  We are unable to accept had delivered formula request forms. Our fax number is (918) 287-5362.

WIC foods are intended to supplement what participants already eat and should be consumed along with other wholesome foods to maintain a healthy diet. All foods that WIC provides have one or more of the following nutrients: protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A and vitamin C. These nutrients are usually low in the diets of WIC participants.

Where do I go to apply?
Osage Nation WIC has several different locations in and around the Osage county area. They are at different dates and times throughout the month.  If you would like to switch from one clinic to another, just give us a call so we can make the proper arrangements needed.
