 Mission Statement:

The Mission for the Osage Nation Historic Preservation Office (ONHPO) is to preserve, maintain, and revitalize the culture and traditions of the Osage Nation.  The ONHPO ensures the identification, protection, and preservation of archaeological and historic Osage sites within the boundaries of the Osage Nation Reservation and on lands throughout our traditional territories and ancestral homelands.  A critical mission of the ONHPO is to participate in the mandated procedures of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) to allow 1) the identification and repatriation of objects sacred to the Osage Nation, 2) the repatriation and reburial of ancestral; Osage remains, and 3) the protection of contemporary and ancestral burials.  The overarching mission of the ONHPO is to help meet the cultural preservation needs voiced by the Osage People.
