Welcome to Osage Nation Head Start
and
Day Care/Early Education Centers!

Head Start:
We are a federally funded low income preschool program for 210 children ages 3-5 yrs. old throughout Osage County.  We have 12 classrooms in 7 communities:  Pawhuska has two (2) classrooms, Skiatook has three (3) classrooms, Barnsdall has one (1) classroom, Fairfax has three (3) classrooms, Shidler has one (1) classroom, McCord has one (1) classroom, Hominy has one (1) classroom

Osage Nation Head Start is working with your communities to give your children that "Head Start" they need to lead us into the future! We teach them not only the basics they need for schools, but also we promote family, community, and the importance of knowing where they come from, where they've been, and where they are going.

Osage Nation Head Start offers an exciting curriculum that keeps your child's mind on the go by providing new and fantastic experiences.  Through revolving themes, classroom activities, and field trips, we are broadening their minds and experiences to prepare them for all the information that will be coming their way in the years to come.

We also believe in the importance of family and parent involvement.  Our families are encouraged to be involved in every aspect of our classroom.  After all, you, as parents, are the most important and influential people in your childs life!  We have monthly parent meetings where you can learn what's happening, offer your suggestions, and get to know the other familys in your communities.

We also incorporate Fatherhood Initiative Nights where the fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other male influences of your child are invited to come to our centers for great activities with their kids.  We've done everything from rocket shooting to good old fashioned cookouts.  The buzz we hear from our program families and communities is that they love this new program.

We certainly don't forget our wonderful Osage heritage.  Your child will learn our language, dances, and basic cultural traditions.  Once a year we gather for Native American Day either at the Pawhuska Arbor, the Hominy Arbor, or the Grayhorse Arbor (dependant upon your center's location) where we have a War Dance\Round Dance and provide a taste of our traditional Osage food.

Osage Nation Head Start gives your child a wide variety of new experiences and cultures, so much so that it is impossible for them not to learn.
Give your child a Head Start that they will carry with them the rest of their lives.
Give them the Osage Nation Head Start.  Our future will thank you for it!
