EDUCATION

The Hominy JOM Program was festive all throughout the month of December with several activities. To begin, parents and students worked together to create and build a float for the Hominy Christmas Parade. This year’s parade theme, “The Reason for the Season” inspired the JOM students to reflect on the birth of Jesus and build a nativity scene made of cedar branches, wood and hay. Children draped in colorful Pendleton blankets set the scene and admired baby Jesus. The JOM float won third place in the float competition. A special thank you to Ryan Bohner & the ON Housing Dept for your support!

With the spirit of the holiday season the JOM Program also hosted a Christmas handgame in the Hominy Village. The day consisted of students learning to play, dance, hear songs, and win games/ gifts with supper to follow. For some children this was their first handgame experience. There was a surprise visit by a special guest, Santa Claus! Santa arrived about 4:30 pm with gift stockings for all. A special thank you to Dan & Marion Cass, James Tawkoyty, Bruce Cass & Everett Waller for your support!

For the grand finale, Hominy JOM students expanded their horizons to the Cultural Arts and journeyed to the Performing Arts Theater in Tulsa, OK to attend the ballet. Students with parental chaperones witnessed the timeless classic “Nutcracker”. This was the first experience for the students and a lifelong memory to keep. The students were rewarded for their scholastic efforts and treated to Incredible Pizza for dinner.

The Hominy JOM Program continues to progress and exists for the better benefit of Native American students. The Program may assist with variety of needs such as school supplies, ACT tests, caps / gowns, fees for athletic physicals, athletic drug testing, activity / registration fees, classroom equipment, cultural curriculum, student incentives, tutoring, etc.
