Anti-Bullying Advocate Kirk Smalley will be Featured Speaker

PAWHUSKA, Okla. (May 7, 2012) – The Osage Nation Counseling Center will host an anti-bullying luncheon, featuring anti-bulling advocate Kirk Smalley as speaker, at 11:30 a.m. at the Wah-Zha-Zhi Cultural Center on Tuesday, May 15.

Smalley’s 11-year-old son, Ty, took his own life in May of 2010 as a result of the effects of bullying.  Smalley and his wife, Laura, who reside in Perkins, Okla., began the program “Stand for the Silent” as a response to this tragedy.

“Stand for the Silent” travels all over the world talking to schools and communities about bullying and the need for legislative change concerning bullying activity.  The Smalleys were one of the families featured in the documentary “Bully” that is in theaters across the United States.
